Recognizing that observed and suspected use of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs
grades 9 through 12 is a serious concern; a program of deterrence will be instituted as a
pro-active approach to promote a drug free school.
The USD 353 Board of Education, in an effort to protect the health and safety of
its students involved in extracurricular activities from illegal drug and alcohol use and
abuse or injuries resulting from the use of illegal drugs and or alcohol adopts this policy
for drug testing of students participating in extracurricular activities. The procedure for
random and possible initial drug testing of high school students participating in
extracurricular activities as defined in this policy is accomplished in conjunction with an
independent drug-testing Vendor selected by the USD 353 Board of Education.
