Kennedy 3rd Grade

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Ms. Bannister and Ms. Carey are so excited to have your third grader in our classes this year! We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding year of learning and growing.

Feel free to contact us anytime if you have questions or concerns about your child's progress. Below, we have tried to answer some of the most common questions you may have:

Discipline We expect our third graders to be respectful of adults, fellow students, and equipment, to exercise self-control over their mouths, bodies and behavior, and to be responsible about completing work correctly and on time.

Each Monday, students will receive $10 worth of KidMart money. They hang on to their money, and may even earn more, by following the rules. They lose money by breaking rules. Severe infractions such as cheating or fighting may result in a child's losing all his or her money at once.

On Fridays, the kids will be able to spend their money on school supplies, toys and other items in our KidMart store.

Homework

Our math curriculum provides a daily homework page. Students may find that they can complete this during the school day if they manage their time wisely. They will also need to spend time at home working on multiplication facts, and also addition and subtraction facts, if they did not master these in previous grades.

They will have spelling lists to study each week, and we also ask that they read at least 20 minutes per night, at least 4 nights per week.

Share Time

Every Thursday afternoon we will have Share Time. This is a time when kids can bring items of special significance to them, such as trophies, collections, awards, etc., to show to the class. We prefer that they don't bring toys.

State Assessments

In February and March of each year, our third graders will take math and reading state assessments. These tests are very important for our school and for your child. As teachers, we will work hard to prepare your students for the tests. You can help by making sure your child has good attendance throughout the year, and by making sure he or she gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast on testing days.

In Closing

We look forward to meeting each of our parents and want you to feel free to drop by the classroom. We thank you in advance for your help in making this a wonderful year for your child.
