Washington Word
On your mark, set, go...I think that is what our remaining time here at school is going to feel like, one big race. April and May are full of activities going on, so please be looking for information being sent home concerning these events.
I would like to congratulate two very "special" people to Washington on receiving some very distinguished awards. Mrs. Peggy Lawrence was named Wellington's Business Woman of the Year and Grandma Kennedy was named Volunteer of the Year. I can't think of any more deserving people for these awards.
Our Red Wheel fundraiser pick-up will be Wednesday, April 9th from 3:30-6:00 p.m., so if you would please inform anyone who bought items of this important day, it would sure be appreciated.
Our Kansas State Assessment testing is nearly complete with 5th grade wrapping it up this week. All has gone well, and our students are representing themselves, teachers, and Washington very well. Just a few helpful hints to the 5th graders and their parents--make sure to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast.
On Friday, April 4 and Monday, April 7 there will NOT be any school. The 4th is a compensation day for conferences, and the 7th is a Teacher In-Service day.
April 16 will be an early release day for students, and school will be dismissed at 1:25 p.m. that day.
Washington will once again be hosting its garage sale in the multi-purpose room April 18-19. This is a great time for some spring cleaning to help our cause and is also a wonderful opportunity to find some new treasures.
April 24 is the annual Washington Track Meet, and it will be held here at Washington. Start times will be sent home at a later date. Your student will need a sack lunch on this date, and please make sure everything can be thrown away after lunch. No glass drink containers are allowed.
As of right now, barring any freak spring storms, the last day of school will be Thursday, May 22. The students will attend all day on this day and be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. for the summer.
There are a few field trips scheduled for this month, and more information will be sent home concerning these dates closer to time. The third and fourth grades will be attending the Crown Uptown Theater on the 25th, fifth grade will be going to the Chaplin Nature Center on the 25th, and Kindergarten will go to the Zoo on the 29th.
Washington will host its Science Fair/Lunchbox Derby on Tuesday, April 22. This event is for everyone. I encourage parents and students to work side by side to create the best project you can.
Washington will be hosting our annual Spring Book Fair the week of April 21-25. If you are interested in helping work this event, please contact the office.
