Saturday was a wonderful day at Hibbs-Hooten Field. The sun shined brightly, the wind noticeably absent, temps nothing but superb for an afternoon of Crusader Baseball vs THE ALUMS!

14 Varsity Crusaders under the direction of their head coach Jeff Frazee took on almost 2 dozen ALUMS, coached by former WHS Head Coach Mike Wilmoth and alum player/coach Rob HIGGIE SR Higginbotham! The "old" boys jumped out early, up 5-0 after their first at-bats. Braun usually conquers bulge, Saturday was no exception. Final score CRUSADERS 19 ALUMS 11.

You can see from the pics what a PERFECTO day it was weather-wise. The atmosphere, the joviality, the Crusader comradery, just as PERFECTO! There were also interesting, fun and cantankerous relationships between members of both squads. Older brother & alum Chevy Nuss with younger Crusader brother Jack, WHS's Senior catcher. Older brother & alum Noah Rinehart with younger Senior infielder, Matthew Rinehart. Last but not least (hopefully I haven't left out any combos), it was HIGGIE SR (aforementioned) and HIGGIE JR, i.e. WHS Senior Pitcher Brayden Higginbotham.

Higgie Sr caught looking...
Higgie Sr caught looking at 3rd strike, 3rd out pitch from son Higgie Jr...a fun day at Hibbs-Hooten Saturday!

At least one big battle between JR and SR took place when JR took the mound in the 3rd inning and SR, batting out of rotation (it's okay, it's an ALUM GAME) challenged his offspring's arm and well, HIGGIE SR lost that challenge. In fact, the closest he came to acquiring ascension to first base was his exit from the batting boxes after taking the 3rd strike, looking. The SO retired the side, JR waved to SR as he parted for the dugout. It truly was a fun and great day to be a Crusader!

There was a great crowd on hand, everyone is anxious for the regular season to get underway and it will do that, 1 week from today on Monday, March 25th. The Crusader Baseball and Lady Crusader Softball teams will host AUGUSTA! Action for the Varsity and JV Boys will get underway at Hibbs-Hooten & 9th St at 4PM, action for both V & JV softballers, action will commence at their home, Worden Park, at 4:30pm - GO BIG RED! Let's ride this school year and spring season out with lots of "W's"!!
