KWHS NEWS TEAM // 2018-2019

2018-2019 // YEAR 1     MORE YEAR ONE PICS

KWHS NEWS will begin it's 2nd year of operation (first full year) this fall out at WHS. The YEARBOOK room in the 200 Hallway is now the KWHS News Studio, equipped with a 9'x15' green screen, news/interview desk and a more informal interview set as well with studio lights. The studio is also equipped with 6 computers and associated software, 1 with dual monitors. KWHS News is part of the Yearbook Class (together, both are now called DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION) so students have the option helping with Yearbook or Newscast or both. Ms. Katie Ford is the certified teacher of record and focuses primarily on the yearbook. Steve Sturgis directs the Crusaders in the newscast studio, on aspects of studio production, from planning to finished product.

KWHS News Desk / Sponsor Banner

Thanks to the sponsorship of IMPACT BANK, in addition to the aforementioned items, we've also acquired new Canon Video equipment, various audio set-ups, an awesome tripod, teleprompter, I-Pad, Crusader Red / Gray Blazers for males and females, access to copyright free music and more! Students will learn all general aspects of putting a newscast or interview or video feature together, from planning, to script writing, music selection, teleprompter use, green screen use, creative editing, scheduling, deadlines and more. Each student will also create a video project of their own, demonstrating their expertise with the many processes. We also have a lot of fun.

First Place KSTL Competition KSU March 2019
Jacob Brown * Dakota Lynnes * Drake Hendrix

KWHS got off to a great start last school year, once up and running. At the KSTL (Kansas Student Technology Leaders) competition at Kansas State University this past March, the senior KWHS News Team, made up of Dakota Lynnes, Drake Hendrix, and Jacob Brown, finished FIRST in "VIDEO PRODUCTION NEWS STORY", defeating Wichita East, Wichita Southeast, Manhattan HS and a half dozen other high schools from across Kansas. A proud moment for the only team in red jackets!
