9th Street Nearly 50% Complete!

Received the following information from Jamie Cornejo, City of Wellington, who is overseeing the repaving of 9th street between the football field and Woodlawn. Jamie reports that Kansas Pavers is the Contractor for the project and right now.. the project is about 45 % completed.

All curb/guttering and intersections have been completed. Contractor will not be working on the main line (9th street itself), from ball fields to Woodlawn this week. Approx. 8-900 square yards to pour.

Study Shows Impact Afterschool Has on Reading

Recently, the Kansas Reading Roadmap (KRR) released a study of 9,000 children across 58 schools in Kansas that shows the impact that afterschool can have on early reading. Through a partnership with the Kansas Multi-Tiered System of Supports and Alignment (MTSS), the statistical analysis of individual student data found a strong correlation between afterschool intervention and grade-level reading based on school tests. For every day a child attended afterschool, his or her chances of reading at benchmark increased by 1.7%.

46th Annual Shrine Bowl Week for DeAndre Washington!

The 46th annual Shrine Bowl took place Saturday evening in Dodge City. Wellington's DeAndre Washington was a member of the "WEST" squad, the 1st Wellington Crusader to be selected for the Shrine Bowl since Tim Lira in 2003.DeAndre and his teammates had to be all smiles at the end of 4, pulling out a 26-7 victory over the East squad, in front of a large crowd at Dodge's Memorial Stadium. Congratulations to DeAndre - it sounds like the overall experience for all the participants will be in their memories for a lifetime!

District Celebration 2019!

After "welcoming" remarks from Superintendent Mark Whitener and remarks by WNEA president Jerri Fike, at Tuesday afternoon's District Celebration 2019, the KU 25 yr teaching certificates and longevity awards for all staff were shared.
