SEPTEMBER 2017 STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
LIFE had a lot of family fun and bonding during Sessions 3 & 4 of the KRR LIFE Program.
We had guest readers: Mr. Buckendorff WHS Principal during session 3 and Wellington Police Officer Jessie Velasquez for session 4 read to the students.
They played games and received free books, games, and prizes in addition to a sit-down family meal.
Next week is the Literacy Night with special events throughout the evening.
Dr. Mark Whitener, USD 353 Superintendent has released this summary of the Sept. 11, 2017 BOE Meeting. The "Minutes" from that meeting will also be posted once they are approved by the Board at October's meeting.
SEPTEMBER 2017 BOE MEETING SUMMARY
KRR for 2017-2018 is Going Strong! We are just beginning Week 3 and have full enrollment at Kennedy, Lincoln, and Washington. The students are participating in Fun and Hands-on activities to enhance their reading and having fun staying physically active.
History was reenacted this past week along the Chisholm Trail and will culminate later this week up near Wichita, to commemorate it's origins some 150 years ago. A cattle drive that began in Oklahoma about a week ago spent Tuesday night near Wellington Lake and pulled out of there late Wednesday morning and headed up the Chisholm Trail towards Mayfield. The 100 or so Longhorns and their drovers headed back out on the trail after a good nights rest, some grazing time and got all watered down just before they departed, horses too!
TOPEKA — Twenty-one Kansas school districts will take part in the Gemini Project, which is another facet of the Kansans Can School Redesign Project, the Kansas State Department of Education announced Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.
The NEW TRACK behind the Wellington Middle School is busy with workers again after the initial 30 day curing period with the foundation layer was completed recently. The final layers are being applied now and completion is anticipated in September. Once the additional layers are in place, the markings will be applied and wah-lah - a NEW TRACK for Wellington! It's going to be nice!!
The "return to school" bells were ringing across our community today as USD 353 schools opened their doors to students for the 2017-2018 school year. Those "welcoming bells" will continue to ring daily through May 22, 2018! Lots of smiles on lots of faces as friends assemble (students and faculty) and prepare for the positive challenges and rewards that lie ahead this school year and beyond.
