Statement from Superintendent Regarding Recent District Restructuring Conversations

Dear USD 353 and Wellington Community,

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the restructuring conversation that has been happening in the district. First, I want to thank everyone who was a part of the conversation. I appreciate you taking the time to listen and provide your valuable feedback. We have finished our first round of presentations to 15 different groups across the district and the community.

At each of these presentations, participants were invited to take a survey where they were able to give feedback on the two ideas presented by the district. This included an opportunity to give any other ideas or suggestions they had. Additionally, stakeholders presented ideas to us outside of these presentations. All of this data was given to the BOE for review.  The next steps included the district reviewing the data and pulling out all viable options that met the district's restructuring goals. This document was presented to the BOE at the December meeting and approved to release to stakeholders. This document can be found here .  The next steps will be for the BOE to review all viable options and instruct the district to bring back detailed plans.

I want to reiterate that from the beginning, this presentation was always meant to drive discussions and receive feedback and ideas from stakeholders. Similarly, this data is a baseline meant to promote discussion for the BOE. There have been no decisions made at this point, and we will be seeking further input from all stakeholders as discussion continues before any decisions are made.  We will continue to give updates and be transparent as we move forward with these discussions.

Sincerely,

Adam Hatfield

Superintendent, USD 353
