On April 24 Wellington High School was proud to host several representatives from the American Farm Bureau Foundation (AFBF) for Agriculture and other guests in celebration of WHS agriculture teacher Mrs. Linda Chase.  The AFBF in partnership with Grow with Google announced last month that Mrs. Chase was selected as one of four ag foundation fellows from 220 of the nation’s top agriculture teachers.

Steve McCloud from the Kansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors was on-hand to introduce Daniel Meloy, Executive Director of the AFBF Foundation for Agriculture, who flew in from Washington DC for the day to attend the event in honor of Mrs. Chase.  Mr. Meloy spoke about the foundation’s goals for ag literacy and its collaboration with Google in developing the fellowship program for which Mrs. Chase was chosen.

As part of the fellowship, Mrs. Chase has created a classroom lesson which incorporates agriculture and technology and is free to all educators on Google’s Applied Digital Skills for Education lesson database.  Mrs. Chase presented to the guests and discussed the lesson she developed over the Kansas Wheat Festival held in Wellington by the Chamber of Commerce.  Mrs. Chase was also presented with 35 of the latest and greatest Google Chromebooks for her classroom and Google cardboard 3D/Virtual Reality headsets for the school.

Among the other guests at the event were Shannon Martin, Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) Assistant Director of Foundation and Ag Education; KFB Communications & Marketing Director Meagan Cramer, KFB County Coordinator Justina Metz, USD 353 Superintendent Adam Hatfield; Assistant Superintendent Jen Kern; WHS Principal and Assistant Principal John Nance and Audrey Gill; 353 school board member Pat Zeka; Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce Director Valerie Earl; FFA officers President Cole McCorkle, Vice President Chloe Hibbs, and Secretary Camryn Bannister; Mrs. Chase’s students; and Mrs. Chase’s daughter Cassidy.

Congratulations to Mrs. Linda Chase for this prestigious honor.  We are proud of you!
